Our clients live in a detached five-bedroom house in the village of Great Amwell in Hertfordshire. Owners, Mr and Mrs W often have family guests to stay and enjoy entertaining and holding big parties. They therefore requested a kitchen that that would function well for these gatherings, while suiting the large space – an extension added to the back of their home. It was also important that their new kitchen would complement Mrs W’s pride and joy, the garden.
Our Bespoke Build & Installation
The owners enlisted our kitchen designer Sally Johnston to bring their vision to life. Following consultation and recommendations from Sally, Mr & Mrs W chose Stoneham’s Edwardian range in smooth painted cashmere for some of the kitchen cabinets. In contrast and for the majority of the furniture, Stoneham’s Vibe range was used in Walnut wood to bring a natural element to the room and add warmth.
Wood continues to feature throughout the room including; the kitchen island, a specially designed table suitable for large dinner parties, as well as a surround for the family’s TV and radiator – all of which we designed and had crafted by Stoneham.
To add a touch of glamour to the kitchen a black mirrored glass splashback was installed, magnifying the impact of the overall room. Silestone Calacatta gold worktops were also chosen to complement the furniture and add a luxurious finish to the design.

In meeting the family’s entertainment needs, a key focal point in the room includes Stoneham’s signature tall bar cupboard with walnut wood storage cupboards and glass shelving to display the owners bottled spirit collection and decanters. Pocket doors allow the bar to be concealed and opened up when our Client’s host a gathering to create a statement piece in the room. Careful planning by our project management team meant that the bar area sits directly under the roof skylights, for maximum effect. The look is made even more impressive by a floor-to-ceiling Siemens bottle wine cabinet on one side and a glass storage cabinet on the other side, ensuring our Client’s parties never run dry.
Further clever storage includes a bi-fold dresser to hide small appliances and keep the room clear from clutter, as well as ample cupboards for all the family’s food goods and kitchenware. The latest appliances were also carefully selected, including a Fisher & Paykel Wide American style fridge/freezer complete with ice and water, two Neff Slide & Hide single ovens and two Neff high warming drawers. On the island sits a BORA induction glass ceramic cooktop with integrated extractor, positioned so that the cook of the home can prepare food while looking out onto the garden. A walnut chopping board by Spekva sits over the hob when it is not in use. Working within the large space, the family’s kitchen opens into a relaxed seating area, with bi-fold doors that lead onto the garden. In the seating area, a bold nature printed wallpaper is used along one wall to add a striking design element, with plenty of potted plants around the room to complement the garden and bring the outdoors inside.
